A woman’s body has been recovered from a river following one of two separate search and rescue operations last night by the emergency services and Irish Coast Guard in counties Limerick and Carlow last night.

The body of a woman was recovered from the River Shannon in Limerick overnight. The woman, in her 70’s, was reported missing last night at approximately 11pm.
A car believed to belong to the woman was discovered parked n an area close to the river at the end of the Mill Road, Corbally, Limerick.
A land, air and water search for the woman was put into operation. Gardaí, the Irish Coast Guard, Limerick City & County Fire Service; Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and the Limerick Land Search Team were all involved in the search.

Following ongoing searches, the woman’s body was discovered in the water by the Limerick Land Search Team. Gardaí in Limerick requested the assistance of the Swift Water Rescue unit from Limerick City & County Fire Service to recover the body from the river.
Limericks 11A1 and 11R1 mobilised at around 2.10am. Personnel from the SWRT recovered the woman’s body where it was then removed to University Hospital in Limerick or a post mortem.
Gardaí have ruled out foul play and are treating the incident as “a personal tragedy”.
Carlow River Search
Meanwhile in County Carlow, a similar search operation took place last night for a woman who was reported to have entered the River Burrin in Carlow town. Gardaí and local emergency services were alerted at approximately 9.30pm to help in the initial search.

Units of Carlow County Fire & Rescue Services’ 11A1, 11B1, 11J1 and a boat and an ambulance from the HSE National Ambulance Service met with Gardaí at the scene close to a housing estate near Eire Óg on the Tullow Road side of the town.
The Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter R117 from Waterford was also involved in the search and arrived over-scene at approximately 10.45pm.
R117 combed stretches over the river and land areas for a number of hours. The helicopter concentrated its search on the river route adjacent to a number of housing estates on the Tullow road end of the town to the river bridge at the junction of the N80 Wexford road.
Emergency services left the scene shortly after midnight while the R117 returned to its base in Waterford. It s understood the woman has since being located safe and well.
