THREE GARDAI were injured and two Garda Patrol cars were damaged last night following an incident in Co Carlow in which three males were arrested. The incident began shortly before midnight on the N80 in Clonegal, Co. Carlow when a car failed to stop for Gardaí at a checkpoint. The car was followed by a number of Garda units across County Carlow before the car rammed a Garda patrol car on St. Joseph’s Road approaching Carlow town a short time later.

Three Gardai were injured and were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny for treatment. They were later discharged.

The occupants of the car, three males aged in their 20’s were arrested at the scene and are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Carlow Garda Station.

A small amount of Cocaine (pending analysis) has been recovered by investigating Gardaí and a technical examination of the scene is underway. The investigation is on-going.
