The body of a young woman has been recovered from the River Shannon in Limerick this afternoon after the woman, aged in her late 30’s or early 40’s, was spotted entering the water.
Gardaí, three units of Limerick City & County Fire Service and the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Unit were called to the scene.
A boat from the fire service’s Swift Water Rescue Unit was also dispatched.
The woman was recovered from the water near Clancy’s strand in the City before being brought to a slipway at a local rowing club where ambulance paramedics provided CPR on her, however, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The remains of the body have been taken to University Hospital Limerick. Gardaí in Limerick are investigating the tragic incident.
