A bus carrying up to 30 school students has overturned in torrential rainfall in Cork this morning. The incident occurred shorty after 8.15am at Cregg South, in the Ballyhooly-Fermoy Road in north Cork. A Special Emergency Plan is underway following the incident.

Many of the school children were freed from the bus, however, emergency service personnel were working to free two children who became trapped. The bus was transporting the children to a secondary school in the Fermoy area. The bus remains overturned.

Gardai have closed off the road and diversions are in place.

A number of the students have been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, however it is understood that nobody has suffered serious injuries.
Gardai and Cork’s Emergency Services have implemented a ‘Special;’ emergency plan to deal with the incident. Gardai say that school management are liaising with the Gardai to keep parents informed.
