Six people, including a young child and an infant have been rushed to hospital following a collision involving another car which was being pursued by Gardai. The incident happened at around 12pm at Ballagh, Portarlington road, Monasterevin, Co. Kildare.
It is understood Gardai were in pursuit of a vehicle from a distance when that car collided with another vehicle in which a family were travelling in. A number of ambulances and a helicopter attended the scene. Ambulances from Athy, Portlaoise and Tullamore were assisted by units of the fire brigade from Monasterevin, Co. Kildare and Portarlington, Co. Laois.
Three occupants of one of the cars who were injured were all males in their teens or early 20’s. One of them was taken to Tullamore General Hospital, while another was taken to Tallaght hospital with serious injuries and a third, who was also taken to Tallaght Hospital with serous head injuries has since being transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
Three people in the other car, an adult male, a two-year old boy and a seven-year old girl were all injured and were also taken to Tullamore Hospital. Emergency Times understands that the seven year old has since been transferred to the intensive care unit of the Cumlin’s Childrens Hospital in Dublin.
Kildare Gardai have closed the road and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 045-527730. An investigation team from the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission are at the scene.
