Two French firefighters and a Spanish woman were killed in a gas explosion in Paris.
France’s Prefecture de Police says almost 50 other people were injured after a suspected gas leak triggered an explosion at a bakery in Paris. 10 people are critical, and 37 others suffered minor injuries.
Up to 200 firefighters were among the Pompiers and the Gendarmerie (emergency responders) at the scene. The blast occurred in a bakery in Rue de Trevise, in the 9th arrondissement, north-central Paris.
Two Medi-Vac helicopters landed close by on streets near the Opera theatre. Interior minister Christophe Castaner said: ‘the toll appears to be high, and severe’ while Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said ‘many residents and tourists have been evacuated from neighbouring buildings and hotels and the city was providing temporary accommodation for those affected’.
