Community First Responder groups in Cork have joined together in a big push to save lives.
Doneraile, Buttevant, Mallow CFR team up with Ballyclough and Liscarrol CFR schemes to hold a joint fundraising event at Cork Racecourse in Mallow on 27th April.
The event is to raise awareness of the community responder groups and what they do so people are more aware of their role to assist the National Ambulance Service responding to calls such as Hearth Attack, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest and Choking.
During the ‘Big Push to Save Lives’ event which will involve a family fun day, the CFR teams, gardaí and firefighters will push a fully equipped ambulance for 26.2 miles, which is the distance of a full marathon.
Several other activities are also planned for the day including displays from farming to fashion, CPR demonstrations, children’s entertainment and everything in between.
Since being established in 2014, the North Cork CFR schemes have collectively attended approximately 1,000 calls. The groups aim to use the ‘Big Push to Save Lives’ event to also recruit more volunteers and teach vital life-saving skills to members of our communities.
