Firefighters in Maynooth and Leixlip, Co. Kildare said a fond farewell to their Sub Officer as he leaves Kildare for Limerick Fire Service.
Sub Station Officer Tarlach Kelly joined Kildare Fire Service in 2008 as a firefighter, aged 28. He quickly grew a love for the service and worked his way to become a Sub Station Officer. Stationed in Maynooth (KE14) for the past 11 years, Retained SSO Kelly returned his alerter on Tuesday night as he prepares to make his way towards the Shannon, where he joins Limerick Fire & Rescue Service.
At a presentation in Maynooth Fire Station during Drill Night on Tuesday, Kildare’s Chief Fire Officer Celina Barrett and Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer (Ops) Niall O’ Riordan joined firefighters from Maynooth and Leixlip stations in bidding him a fond farewell. North Kildare Retired Station Officer Brendan Kelly was also presented.
Tarlach is a well-known local in the community, for his time spent as a gym instructor in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth.
Speaking at the presentation in his honor, Sub Officer Kelly said ‘Kildare Fire Service made me who I am today. I thrive on being able to help my local community where possible, and to aid them in their time of need. I will be sad to be leaving Kildare, in particular my colleagues and friends in Maynooth.”

Tarlach also advanced his skills and qualifications outside the fire service when he qualified as an EMT in his medical studies.
During the presentation, the Chief Fire Officer presented Tarlach with a statuette of a firefighter.

Celina Barrett said “All of us at Kildare Fire Service wish you all the best in your new role and we are confident that you will bring a lot of skills, expertise and other abilities to your new watch in Limerick.”
