An incredible 343 mile fundraising cycle will take place from Boston to New York to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Two firefighters from Dingle, Co. Kerry will join other Irish firefighters in Boston in aid of Friends of Firefighters.
A team of six firefighters from Donegal are also among others who made the journey to participate in the 2026 ‘Ride for Resilience’ event and to honour the 343 FDNY firefighters who died on 9/11, and all those first responders who have lost their lives or continue to live with the consequences of that day.

Firefighters Martin Sweeney and John O’Connor take on the gruelling cycle which will finish at the 9/11 Memorial Park in New York, where a special ceremony will take place to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and to remember all those who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured and the families left behind.

FF’s Sweeney and O’Connor will be joined along the way by their firefighter colleagues from Kerry and other fire services across Ireland, making this a truly special show of solidarity between firefighters on both sides of the Atlantic. In a statement, Dingle Fire Service said “This is an incredible challenge for a very worthy cause, and we wish Martin and John, and everyone taking part, a safe journey and the very best of luck. Stay safe lads, and make every mile count!”
