An Garda Siochána alerted the Army Bomb Disposal Team in the early house of this morning after a suspect device was found in the residential Shannon Lawn area of Mayfield in Cork.
The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 05.12 am and assessed the device where it was found to be a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The Defence Forces team removed it a safe military location for deconstruction & further examination and the scene was made safe at 7.10am.
Gardai in Cork are investigating the incident and items of evidential nature have been handed over to the Gardaí by the Defence Forces to assist them with their investigation.
