The Chairman of FESSEF – Frontline Emergency and Security Services Eire Form has today called on the government to establish an annual national ‘All Service Day’ to recognise the members of Ireland’s emergency, voluntary, security and rescue services.
The call comes on the day that the national frontline and voluntary services took part in a parade from Parnell Square to Trinity College, Dublin where they joined other services at an exhibition and display at Trinity College.
FESSEF Chairman Seamus O’ Neill spoke to EmergencyTimes.ie and said he will be calling for an ‘All Services Day’. ‘While it is great to see all these services proudly showcasing their services here in Dublin, it should also be recognised nationally and I am using this opportunity today to call on the Government to consider holding an ‘All Services Day’ each year, to recognise these men and women and the services that they so proudly service, whether it is paid, voluntary or on a reserve basis. There needs to be more recognition of these services I think’.
Thousands of people lined the streets of Dublin to greet the emergency and voluntary services as they paraded through O’ Connell Street en -oute to Trinity College.
The parade came to a standstill at the Spire on O’ Connell street and a minute silent was held as a mark of respect to the late Caitriona Lucas, who died tragically last week at Kilkee, Co. Clare. Caitriona was a voluntary member of the Irish Coast Guard. At the exhibition at Trinity College, the Irish Coast Guard also paid tribute to their colleague and hundreds of people, members of services and members of the public lined up to sign books of condolences as a mark of respect.
This is the third year that FESSEF has coordinated this event and it is growing each year. Irish Water Safety joined the list of services today.
Minister Shane Ross and Minister Simon Harris are to join heads of services and invited guests later this evening at a special Gala Dinner at Trinity College.
