Gardaí in Cork are investigating an incident in which one man was assaulted and a house was badly damaged by fire. The incident happened at around 3.20am at the Hollywood Estate, Knocknaheeny in Cork.
Cork Fire Brigade responded to an emergency call and when they arrived, fire crews found the house ‘well alight’.

Fire fighters carried out a search of the house but it was found to be unoccupied. The house was gutted in the blaze.
Gardai believe that a man who was discovered assaulted nearby may be connected to the incident. He was taken to hospital with hs injures.
The scene remains sealed off pending a full garda technical examination.
