The Finnish Emergency Response Centre Agency, including mobile app 112 Suomi, successfully joined the PEMEA Network.
PEAMA is the Pan-European Mobile Emergency App and it allows Finnish users to more easily contact the emergency centers of Europeans countries when they are on the move using a mobile PEMEA compliant app, to be attended in an emergency by the Finnish PSAP.
This new entry into the PEMEA network gave rise to the first PEMEA live calls proceeded in January between Finland and Italy. This is a great technological first which marks the maturity of this technology developed in recent years and which will revolutionize emergency call.
In addition, PEMEA (Pan-European Mobile Emergency Application) is being deployed in various other European countries like Romania, Spain, Slovenia, Monaco where tests and developments have been carried out in recent months.
A new step in the PEMEA network development Finnish Emergency Response Centre Agency, Digia and Deveryware have completed the work to integrate the Suomi App and the ERICA emergency management system into the PEMEA network. PEMEA, an ETSI standard (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) promoted by the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), aims to enable European citizens to contact the nearest emergency center, using the mobile emergency application downloaded in their country.
Thanks to the integration into this network, national and foreign tourists will be able to be geolocated regardless of their origin or language, which will provide very valuable information and reduce response time.

Finland, pioneer in Europe in the digitalization and updating of 112 centres Thus, Suomi App, which currently has over 1,8 million downloads in Finland, could be used in the regions and countries that will become members of PEMEA network.

The next step, which is already underway, is to ensure that emergency centers and mobile applications integrated into the PEMEA network can deploy new features such as instant messaging, video calling and real-time data sending to improve accessibility to emergency services for all. All this while maintaining full compliance with data protection laws.
The Emergency Response Centre Agency’s mobile app, 112 Suomi, was published in June 2015. The app automatically relays the caller’s exact location to the ERC. The 112 Suomi mobile app also contains Finnish oncall service numbers for non-emergency needs, the location of the nearest defibrillator, and public safety announcements. Finland has only one emergency number, 112, for the most urgent emergencies The Emergency Response Centre Agency receives emergency notifications from all services through the emergency number 112.
All information is processed and all units are alerted using the same information system. An emergency response centre can alert all of the necessary authorities simultaneously. This is enabled by the joint authorities’ telecommunications network. The Emergency Response Centre Agency includes six emergency response centres which form a single virtual emergency response centre. Assistance may be sent via any of the emergency response centres. Emergency calls are handled equally throughout Finland.
