A number of Kildare fire fighters were attacked and they received minor cuts while their fire engine was damaged as they attempted to leave the scene of an incident last night. Kildare Fire Service responded to an emergency call at around 9.30pm last night to an ‘out of control’ bonfire at Castlefan, Sallins.
As fire crews were leaving the scene, they came under attack by a group of youths who were said to be aged between 6 and around 17 years of age. Fireworks were thrown towards the fire tender and some fire-fighters were injured. A window on the engine was smashed.
