Fire Fighters came under attack last night while attempting to extinguish a rubbish fire deliberately set at the base of a community CCTV monitoring pole at an estate on the Northside of the Limerick City last night. It is understood fire fighters were attacked when a group of youths began to throw “missiles” at the crew.

Gardai at Henry Street Garda Station are investigating the setting of two rubbish fires at a CCTV monitoring pole near St Munchin’s St on Kings Island as well as reports that firefighters dealing with the initial blaze came under fire from a group of thugs throwing missiles at the emergency crews.
Shortly after 8pm last night, two fire appliances from Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene where there was a report of a fire underway on the street adjacent to a house that was extensively damaged by fire on Christmas Eve.
Firefighters dealt with the initial blaze, but it is reported that crews came under attack from a group of thugs. One of the appliances was damaged when rocks and other items were thrown by the group who were gathered in the area.
No one was injured during the attack.
The incident was reported to Gardai who are investigating. However, fire crews had to return to the same scene less than one hour later as another fire had been set at the same location.
No further incidents were reported as the crews extinguished the second blaze.
