As many businesses and industries are in the process of returning to work, some businesses are using door wedges when it comes to limiting contact between people and doors.
Dublin Fire Brigade is discouraging the use of door wedges or other objects which hold a door open, as this will allow smoke and fire to spread much quicker in the event of a fire.
DFB says ‘hold open devices linked to the building’s fire alarm system is the gold standard, and should be installed if a door is required to be left open.’
In doing so this will automatically release the door should the fire alarm activate or the power supply fail.
