Donegal Fire Service and the Irish Coast Guard held a familiarisation training course with the Irish Coast Guard’s Ballyshannon based rescue Helicopter R118.
Firefighters from Donegal Town, Ballyshannon and Bundoran fire stations, along with Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Shaun Campbell underwent the training.
As part of the training, the team were fully briefed on all aspects of the helicopters equipment and they were also instructed on what procedures should be taken if the Coast Guard helicopter calls the fire service for assistance at incidents such as Road Traffic Collisions, Cliff rescues or in the event of an ‘Aircraft Down’ incident, resulting in fire or crash.
During the course of the training exercise, firefighters were winched up into the helicopter, and later lowered down.
