Dublin Fire Brigade has mobilised a ‘full response’ to a confirmed fire in the Dublin Port Tunnel. One man has been brought to the Matter Hospital as a precaution. The Port tunnel is closed until the afternoon and traffic diversions are in place.
A truck caught fire travelling northbound through the tunnel. The Fire Brigade were alerted to the fire at around 7am.
The standard response by Dublin Fire Brigade to a confirmed fire n the tunnel is four fire tenders, a Tunnel Response Vehicle, an Emergency Tender, the Environmental Unit, and Ambulance and two District Officers. Fire-Ireland.com has estimated that up to ten fire appliances are at the scene. It is estimated that up to ten fire appliances are at the scene. DFB: ‘Confirmed fire in Dublin Port Tunnel, both bores of the tunnel are now closed. Full tunnel response in attendence D41, D42, D43, D44, D45, D35, D51, D61, D/O Delta AND D/O Foxtrot’.
While the fire has been brought under control there is major traffic gridlock in the area and around the city and suburbs as a result of the tunnel closure.
AA Roadwatch has said that the 5 axle ban on trucks in the city centre has been temporarily lifted to help ease traffic.
