Several units of Cavan County Fire Service were tasked to deal with a wide-area fire on the Ballyconnel mountains.
Fire crews from Ballyconnel (CN17) were dealing with a forest fire yesterday when it progressed rapidly. Additional crews from Cavan’s Belturbet (CN18) and Kilashandra (CN19) stations were also alerted to deal with the large fire. A senior fire officer also attended.
Coillte used drones to assist fire crews on the ground in identifying hotspot areas.
A helicopter was also used for water drops into the dense forestry area. The fires brought under control after a number of hours.
