Kildare Civil Defence Officer Patricia McNeela has thanked the hundreds of volunteers who assisted in the search for missing kayaker Declan Reid who went missing on the River Barrow in Athy last Sunday.
Volunteers from several Civil Defence units across the region were involved in the search for the missing man.
Garda divers recovered the Mr. Reid’s body from the river around 4pm yesterday.
Civil Defence Officer Patricia McNeela spoke to EmergencyTimes.ie and said the recovery finally brings closure for the family. “We had units from Kildare, Laois, Dublin, Kilkenny and Waterford involved. There was over 80 volunteers. We had four boats and a number of rafts on the river and I’d like to thank all the volunteers that assisted in the search and also to thank the Civil Defence Officers from each of the counties for all their assistance in helping to coordinate the search.”
