A new Manual Handling Operators Course has been jointly developed by the Civil Defence College and the National Ambulance College. Twenty Trainee Paramedics successfully completed the course at the National Ambulance College recently.
The course, which consists of an 8 hour programme aims to streamline interagency skills between volunteers and paramedics working as teams in response to an incident.
The programme includes a range of quality assurance measures to confirm learner competence through use of Short Answer Exam Paper, multiple individual Risk Assessment Exercises and Skills demonstration through use of a range of objects. The Civil Defence expects that the new programme will be rolled-out to all Civil Defence and National Ambulance Service Instructors in the coming months, supported by a learner’s micro-site on www.civildefence.ie
