Emergency Services in Carlow town attended the scene of a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) this afternoon.
The incident, involving a single vehicle, occurred on the N80 Carlow/Wexford road at the entrance to Friars Green housing estate at around 12 midday.

It is understood the vehicle involved may have struck a pedestrian light pole before the car flipped into the air and landed on its roof. It is believed there was just one occupant in the vehicle when the collision happened.

Carlow gardaí, an ambulance and Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene. The road was closed for a time and a Stop/Go system was put in place by the fire service. There were long delays on the busy route.

The scene and an area around the damaged pedestrian crossing was cordoned off. Carlow County Council have been informed of the incident.

The crash occurred on one of the busiest weekends for the fire services and a busy weekend for road users. So far this bank holiday weekend two men have died in separate collisions in counties Louth and Clare.
Yesterday, a 26 year old man died following a single vehicle collision at Rathmore, Dundalk, Co. Louth at 12.20am.

In County Clare, a man has died and a woman was seriously injured following a single vehicle collision at 3.40am today when the car collided with a tree at Woodcock Hill, Meelik, Co. Clare.
