The Wexford Maritime Festival will take place on the quays in Wexford town this weekend.
This year the festival will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Wexford’s Air Base is commemorated, with lots of activity on the sea and in the air.
This is the 7th annual Wexford Maritime Festival and this year, organisers are keen to highlight ‘Keeping Afloat’ and life-saving skills as part of their safety message theme in support of this year’s water safety message from the RNLI and Irish Coast Guard, led by Irish Water Safety.
Various emergency and voluntary services will also be on hand to showcase their vehicles, equipment and services, while members provide demonstrations over the two-day festival.
On Saturday, the Irish Coast Guard’s Waterford based Rescue 117 is scheduled to participate in an Air and Sea Search and Rescue demonstration with Wexford RNLI Lifeboat and the Wexford Civil Defence.
The popular air show returns this year and takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival was launched on Thursday last and festival Directors David Maguire and Lorraine Galvin said: ‘Now in its 7th year the festival has become County Wexford’s largest summer community family festival and this festival wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers from the many organisations and the support of Wexford County Council, BIM, local business and community groups’.
