Up to 70 jobs are feared lost following a fire at a furniture factory in County Tipperary. The fire began at around 7pm last evening at Tippo International, Kilkeary, which is approximately 35 km from Nenagh, North Tipperary.
Initial fire response involved as many as seven units of Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service were mobilised to the incident. This morning, fire crews from four north Tipperary stations remain at the scene. Emergency Times understands these stations are TN11 Nenagh, TN12 Thurles, TN13 Roscrea and possibly TN 14 Templemore.

EmergencyTimes.ie spoke to the Munster Regional Control Centre this morning who confirmed what response was mobilised. ‘Four stations from North Tipperary in attendance, there are eleven fire appliances, a Hydraulic Platform (HP) and Water Tankers’.

Last night, local sources told Emergency Times that the fire was ‘well established’ on arrival.
Tipperary’s Chief Fire Officer Dave Carrol told TippFM News, the fire spread very quickly. ‘The entire premises is completely gutted essentially, and it was very quickly into the incident. Tippo manufactures Kitchens so it primarily timber and its laminated timber on the timber panels so it really does burn very ferociously. There is a lot of gas, heating oil, lots of hazards. The fire is now under control but still burning and probably will be for much of the day’.
The fire has caused extensive damage to the premises. There are no reports of any injuries.
